Overview
The Department of Cardiac Surgery, founded in the 1950s, has a longstanding tradition and, through the dedication of generations, has developed into a modern subspecialty integrating clinical care, education, and research. Our department ranks among the leading units in Wuxi City in terms of annual patient volume and breadth of subspecialty coverage. We currently operate 34 beds and employ 10 physicians: 3 Chief Physicians, 5 Associate Chief Physicians, and 2 Attending/Resident physicians. Among our staff, 8 hold Master’s or Doctoral degrees, comprising an 80% postgraduate qualification rate. The department maintains a balanced and capable talent pool.
Treatment Scope
Regularly perform surgical treatment for a broad range of congenital heart diseases, including atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, Tetralogy of Fallot, and anomalous pulmonary venous drainage.
Routinely undertake mitral and aortic valve replacement and valve repair for various valvular diseases.
Perform coronary artery bypass grafting for ischemic heart disease.
Provide surgical treatment for benign and malignant esophageal and gastroesophageal diseases.
Manage both benign and malignant pulmonary diseases with thoracic surgical procedures.
Surgically treat a variety of mediastinal tumors.
Provide comprehensive management of chest trauma.

Research achievements
In recent years, the department has pursued clinical and scientific progress in parallel. We have published nearly 30 research papers, including 13 articles indexed by SCI and 5 Chinese core journals. The department has also filed 3 patents and published a monograph on cardiac surgery.
