Overview
The Department of Dental Specialties of Wuxi No.2 People’s Hospital(Jiangnan University Medical Center) has a history of 85 years and is currently designated as a Key Clinical Specialty in Wuxi. The department currently employs 21 physicians, including 6 with senior professional titles, 6 with associate senior professional titles, 8 attending physicians, and 1 resident physician. Among them, 1 holds a Ph.D. and 15 hold master’s degrees. Seven staff members currently serve on various specialized committees of the Jiangsu Stomatological Association. The department offers a comprehensive range of services, with particular strengths in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine, and Dental Implantology. It currently operates 15 inpatient beds and 15 dental chairs, equipped with advanced technology including a Kavo dental CT scanner, a Straumann dental power system, a Saiteli ultrasonic bone scalpel, a semiconductor laser, and a 3-Shape digital dental scanning system. The department handles over 63,000 outpatient visits annually, performs nearly 600 surgical procedures, and conducts more than 50 Level IV surgeries each year.
Treatment scope
We routinely provide services in general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, and orthodontics, as well as perform oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures. We have earned a strong reputation within the city, particularly for the diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial tumors, maxillofacial trauma and deformities, dental implants, complex root canal therapy, orthodontics, prosthodontics, halitosis, periodontal disease, and oral mucosal diseases. The clinic also features specialized outpatient clinics for oral and maxillofacial tumors, temporomandibular joint disorders, cosmetic dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, premium denture restoration, and dental implant restoration.

1. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a member of the National Medical Center’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Alliance, the Jiangsu Provincial Stomatological Hospital’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Alliance, and the Nanjing Stomatological Hospital’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Alliance. With 15 inpatient beds, the department admits over 600 patients annually and performs nearly 600 surgical procedures, ranking first in the city for annual surgical volume. It has earned a strong reputation among the public for its expertise in the radical resection and functional reconstruction of oral and maxillofacial malignancies, as well as the comprehensive sequential treatment of oral and maxillofacial trauma. In recent years, the department has focused on minimally invasive surgical treatment for parotid gland tumors and surgical management of complex maxillofacial fractures, achieving excellent results. These efforts have been recognized by peers across the city and garnered attention from provincial and municipal media. Recently, the department has performed multiple autologous tooth transplantation procedures with favorable outcomes, offering a new treatment option for patients with tooth loss. Among these, minimally invasive extraction techniques for complex impacted teeth and laser excision of maxillofacial masses are at the leading level in the city.
2. The Department of Oral Medicine specializes in complex and calcified root canal therapy, microscopic root canal therapy, standardized periodontal treatment, laser periodontal therapy, and periodontal surgery.
3. The Department of Oral Implantology performs complex and challenging guided bone regeneration (GBR), maxillary sinus elevation, immediate implant placement, 3D-guided implant surgery, and digital prosthetics.
Research achievements
The Department of Stomatology has undertaken numerous research projects funded by the Wuxi Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission, the Wuxi Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the Nanjing Medical University Science and Technology Development Fund, and the Nantong University Science and Technology Development Fund. It has received multiple awards, including the Jiangsu Provincial New Technology Introduction Award and the Wuxi Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award, and enjoys a high reputation among the citizens of Wuxi. The Department of Stomatology is currently a member of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialty Alliance of the National Center for Stomatology, as well as an alliance unit of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanjing University and the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. The department is responsible for teaching the course “Oral Science” to undergraduate students in the School of Medicine at Jiangnan University and at Nantong University, and oversees clinical internship training for the Department of Stomatology at Nantong University and the Department of Stomatology at Suzhou Health Vocational and Technical College.
