Overview
The Department of Dermatology at Wuxi No.2 People’s Hospital (Jiangnan University Medical Center) is a Key Clinical Specialty of Jiangsu Province and a master’s training site for dermatology at the School of Medicine, Jiangnan University and the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University. It is a collaborating unit of the National Clinical Research Center for Immunology and Skin Diseases, a member unit of Ruijin Hospital (Shanghai) and Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the chairman unit of the Dermatology Branch of Wuxi Medical Association, a standing committee member unit of the Dermatology Branch of Jiangsu Medical Association, the chairman unit of Wuxi Dermatology Specialty Alliance, and Wuxi Skin Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center.
The department consists of outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and specialized subspecialties and disease-specific clinics. It has a total staff of 45, including 26 physicians (16 chief physicians, 5 associate chief physicians, 5 attending physicians; 6 master’s supervisors), 14 nurses, 2 technicians, and 1 outpatient guide.
Treatment scope
The department has established subspecialties including dermatopathology, dermatologic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, skin imaging, mycology, venereology, and allergy. It runs a full spectrum of disease-specific clinics: psoriasis, rosacea, dermatologic surgery, facial pigmentation, scar, urticaria, alopecia, eczema/atopic dermatitis, acne & bullous diseases, vitiligo, facial anti-aging & injectable aesthetics, and nail disorders & nail surgery. It provides accurate and timely management for all common and frequently encountered skin diseases.
The Skin Medical Aesthetics Center specializes in pigmentary disorders, vascular lesions, and comprehensive facial rejuvenation. The Dermatologic Surgery Center excels in surgical treatment of scars, benign and malignant skin tumors, nail disorders, and cosmetic suturing.
The inpatient ward has 10 beds for severe and refractory skin diseases, including pemphigus, bullous pemphigoid, severe drug eruption, psoriasis, and skin tumors.
The Skin Imaging Center is equipped with reflectance confocal microscopy (skin CT) and high-resolution dermatoscopy for hair and nail examination, enabling non-invasive layered imaging for efficient differentiation of benign and malignant lesions. Skin biopsy is routinely performed for histopathological diagnosis of complex disorders.
The Mycology Laboratory provides fungal fluorescence microscopy and standardized fungal culture to improve detection of deep fungal infections. The General Treatment Room offers cryotherapy, laser therapy, narrow-band UVB, hydrotherapy, and photodynamic therapy for refractory acne and HPV-related warts.

Dermatologic Surgery: Radical resection of benign/malignant skin tumors, comprehensive treatment of keloids, and surgical management of nail disorders.
Laser & Cosmetic Dermatology: Dye laser for vascular lesions and rosacea; Q-switched laser for pigmentary disorders (seborrheic keratosis, freckles, café-au-lait spots); M22 for photoaging (pigmentation, fine wrinkles, telangiectasia); fractional laser for atrophic acne scars and rhytides; Thermolift for skin tightening and lifting.
Biologics & Small-Molecule Drugs: For psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, vitiligo, alopecia areata, pemphigus, and bullous pemphigoid.
Allergy Subspecialty: Standardized allergen detection and targeted therapy for atopic dermatitis and chronic urticaria.
Dermatopathology & Skin Imaging: Nationally advanced diagnostic capabilities.
Highly recognized disease-specific clinics: Alopecia, vitiligo, psoriasis, urticaria, and atopic dermatitis.
Research achievements
The department has undertaken 4 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 2 Jiangsu Natural Science Foundation projects, and more than 10 research projects from Wuxi Municipal Health Commission, and has published numerous academic papers including SCI-indexed articles.
It is a collaborating unit for type 2 inflammatory diseases, psoriasis, and hair disorders under the National Clinical Research Center for Skin and Immune Diseases; a standardized residency training base; a master’s training site for Jiangnan University School of Medicine; and a national GCP center with over 100 clinical trials.
It has become a provincial key clinical specialty integrating clinical service, education, and research, as well as a national GCP center and collaborating unit of the National Clinical Research Center for Skin and Immune Diseases.
