Overview
the Department of General Practice of Wuxi No.2 People's Hospital (Jiangnan University Medical Center) established in 2014, was accredited as a general practice training base in the same year and is a national standardized training base for resident physicians. After seven years of steady development and improvement, it has grown into a well-established general practice department matching the standards of Grade A tertiary hospitals, integrating clinical practice, scientific research, teaching and community services, ranking among the top in Wuxi in specialty development.
The department delivers medical services with over 20,000 outpatient visits and more than 1,400 inpatients annually, and has made remarkable achievements in scientific research and teaching. It has fostered a well-structured team of general practitioners with rich clinical experience covering senior, intermediate and junior professional levels, and cultivated a large number of outstanding general practitioners competent for primary medical care work. It was honored as a Key Clinical Specialty of Wuxi City in 2023.
The department is equipped with 35 ward beds including 5 single rooms, and provides high-quality medical services with advanced service concepts. It has a total of 20 medical staff, including 2 chief physicians, 1 associate chief physician, 1 master supervisor, 1 postdoctoral researcher, 8 masters and 1 on-the-job doctoral candidate.
Treatment Scope
Sticking to the service tenet of people-oriented and health-centered medical care and health management, the ward mainly admits patients with undifferentiated diseases, multiple comorbidities, psychosomatic diseases, chronic diseases requiring continuous and comprehensive medical care, family dysfunction-related health issues, as well as people in need of early disease screening and health management.
Adopting the bio-psycho-social medical model, the department emphasizes accessible, comprehensive, continuous and coordinated medical services, and provides integrated services including disease prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, health care, health education and psychological counseling for individuals, families and communities, giving full play to the unique advantages of general practice and general practitioners.
Apart from routine prevention, treatment and management of common and frequently-occurring diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, cerebral infarction, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and osteoporosis, the department carries out a host of distinctive advantageous medical technologies, including sleep breathing monitoring, early screening of common tumors and precise diagnosis and treatment system for osteoporosis.
It also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of multi-system related undifferentiated diseases commonly seen in general practice, such as fever, emaciation, fatigue, chest pain, abdominal pain and syncope, which greatly improves its capacity in diagnosing intractable diseases and common illnesses.
Research achievements
Led by Director Jiang Yu, the department takes a leading position in basic research on osteoporosis in Jiangsu Province. Up to now, the team has published 25 SCI papers and 33 Chinese core journal papers, and obtained 9 invention patents including 3 international patents.
It has undertaken projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and won science and technology progress awards at provincial and municipal levels. Director Jiang has attended international academic conferences and conducted academic exchanges in North America, Europe, Asia and other regions for many times, enjoying prominent academic influence nationwide.
