Obstetrics and Gynecology
Overview
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wuxi No.2 People’s Hospital ( Jiangnan University Medical Center) has 50 inpatient beds. The department currently has 21 medical staff, including 7 chief physicians, 7 associate chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, and 3 resident physicians, among whom 12 hold master’s degrees.
The department is equipped with comprehensive and advanced medical devices, including multi function electric delivery beds, imported maternal fetal monitors, fetal electronic monitors, STORZ hysteroscopes and laparoscopes, colposcopes, and cervical LEEP systems. A dedicated GE multimedia color Doppler ultrasound machine has been introduced for obstetric use, providing strong support for prenatal diagnosis.
The department provides general and specialist outpatient services for gynecology and obstetrics, and runs specialized clinics including cervical disease clinic, gynecologic endocrinology clinic, family planning clinic, midwife clinic, and lactation clinic. Gynecology offers multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinics in collaboration with Endocrinology, Neurosurgery, Rheumatology, and Nutrition. Obstetrics has formed an expert team with Neonatology, Anesthesiology, Ultrasound, and other specialties to provide integrated care for pregnant women and perinatal infants.
In the past three years, the department has published nearly 30 academic papers, including 1 Chinese National Core Journal paper and 2 SCI papers, and has been granted 1 patent.
Treatment Scope
Gynecology
The department provides diagnosis and standardized treatment (surgical and follow up management) for common gynecologic diseases, including ectopic pregnancy, uterine fibroids, benign ovarian tumors, endometriosis, cervical diseases, and gynecologic endocrine disorders. It offers standardized diagnosis, surgery, and adjuvant treatment for gynecologic malignancies (ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancers).
It routinely performs various hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgeries, as well as family planning procedures including induced abortion, medical abortion, intrauterine device insertion and removal, ligation, and visualized abortion. The department excels in the diagnosis and treatment of complex gynecologic diseases with medical and surgical comorbidities.
Obstetrics
In addition to routine and specialist obstetric clinics, the department runs midwife and lactation clinics. It has extensive experience in managing severe pregnancy complications and emergencies, including severe preeclampsia, amniotic fluid embolism, fetal distress, placental abruption, pernicious placenta previa, uterine rupture, and massive postpartum hemorrhage.
Technical advantages
The department provides painless induced abortion, cervical disease management, multidisciplinary treatment for polycystic ovary syndrome, standardized management of perimenopausal syndrome, long term management of endometriosis, and standardized diagnosis and targeted therapy for gynecologic tumors.
Minimally invasive surgeries including hysteroscopy and laparoscopy are routinely performed. A multidisciplinary cooperation model is applied for complex gynecologic diseases with medical and surgical comorbidities.
Obstetric services include painless labor, doula assisted labor, one to one labor support, and free position labor and delivery. The department provides VIP family centered maternity wards with private bathrooms, TV, 24 hour purified constant temperature milk preparation water, microwave, and refrigerator. Daily ward rounds by obstetric and pediatric specialists, professional lactation consultants, and nutritionists ensure safe, comfortable, and personalized postpartum recovery.
Research achievements
The department is among the first batch of standardized residency training bases for obstetrics and gynecology in Jiangsu Province. It hosts an Obstetrics and Gynecology Teaching and Research Office and serves as a teaching and internship base for Nanjing Medical University, Nantong University, Jiangnan University, and Jiangsu University School of Medicine. It provides clinical training for advanced physicians, residents, and interns (5 year and 7 year programs).
The department attaches great importance to clinical and basic research. In the past three years, it has published nearly 30 papers, including 1 national Chinese core journal article and 2 SCI articles (one with an impact factor of 4.50), and has been granted 1 patent.
