Overview
The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Wuxi No.2 People’s Hospital(Jiangnan University Medical Center) was established in 1958. Comprising the Division of Internal Medicine and the Division of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, it is a specialty department of the hospital. The department currently has a staff of nine physicians, including seven with senior professional titles, one with a Ph.D., and four with master’s degrees. The department primarily provides TCM diagnosis and treatment for both outpatients and inpatients. With facilities at both the North and South campuses, it features 8 consultation rooms, 2 treatment rooms, and 18 treatment beds. It serves an average of over 100 outpatient visits per day, conducts approximately 5,000 inpatient consultations annually, and is projected to reach 15,000 outpatient visits in 2024. The department has accumulated extensive experience and developed distinctive approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of both common and complex conditions. Its scope of practice spans all clinical specialties, and it is highly regarded for its exceptional efficacy in treating a wide range of difficult-to-treat conditions.
Treatment Scope
The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine has demonstrated significant efficacy in treating various internal medicine conditions such as spleen and stomach disorders, geriatric diseases, cough and asthma, night sweats and spontaneous sweating, deficiency of qi and blood, and imbalance of yin and yang, as well as in gynecology, dermatology, and pediatrics. It is particularly effective for chronic gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, colitis, incomplete intestinal obstruction, fatty liver, liver abscess, appendiceal abscesses, pancreatic abscesses, chronic cough, chronic asthma, chronic nephritis, vertigo, acne, eczema, dermatitis, coronary heart disease, breast diseases, menstrual irregularities, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, and hyperlipidemia. Currently, specialized outpatient clinics have been established for TCM-based treatment of digestive disorders, cough, insomnia, spontaneous sweating, and preventive medicine.
The Acupuncture Department primarily treats patients with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, such as post-stroke sequelae, facial paralysis, cerebral palsy in children, cervical and lumbar spine disorders, frozen shoulder, various pain syndromes (migraines, toothaches, various neuralgias, joint pain, etc.), sports injuries, traumatic injuries (such as traumatic brain injury), and postoperative sequelae. Additionally, the department achieves excellent therapeutic results for sub-health conditions such as insomnia, neurasthenia, menopausal syndrome, diarrhea, constipation, myopia in adolescents, acute tinnitus and hearing loss, allergic rhinitis, menstrual irregularities, dysmenorrhea, pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis, enuresis in children, pediatric diarrhea, and shingles.
Technical advantages
We currently offer a wide range of specialized Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments, including herbal decoctions, topical herbal applications, herbal paste formulas, acupuncture (including body, scalp, and ear acupuncture), electroacupuncture, microneedling, infrared therapy, cupping, sliding cupping, flash cupping, and blood-letting, among others. These therapies are used to treat various common, recurrent, and intractable conditions.
Research achievements
One research project funded by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, one grant from the Jiangsu Natural Science Foundation, and three research projects funded by the Jiangsu Provincial Health Commission; has published several papers in core journals and SCI-indexed journals; and has edited and published several monographs.
